Rob Allen was born in 1958 and spent his younger years as a fisherman off the coast in his home South Africa. After getting in the water at the age of 22 while working for the Natal Sharks Board a new passion was born.
Rob started making his own spearguns in 1982 while working as a marine ranger and living in Cape Vidal where he was able to listen to and integrate ideas from many other spearfishers who visited the area. Originally seen as far bigger than the South African standard, Rob’s spearguns where thought of as too big and too long, but this opinion soon changed when it was realised that big fish were able to be taken at long range.
Launching his company officially in 1988 when he didn’t have enough time to keep up with the demands of making his spearguns with another job, Rob began building spearguns and accessories commercially.
Rob Allen is the leading name when it comes to spearfishing and freediving equipment with the range having expanded from just spearguns (though they still remain the most in demand product). Rob Allens spearguns are known for their simplicity and strength that is able to withstand any water conditions and now sell commercially in over 40 countries worldwide.
Rob Allen designs continue to develop and in 2016 a new factory premises was acquired, with the objective to expand and develop in-house composite products focusing on carbon fibre products.
