Following a dive in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, English divers Paul Strike and Jim Standing sat having a post dive beer and decided they wanted to design a new range of thermal protection to give divers a better option for staying warm in colder water diving. In 1999 Fourth Element was born.
With ‘Equipment for Diving’ as their slogan, the pair have embraced the latest technological developments in fabric design, creating unique combinations and design the Fourth Element range now revolutionises thermal protection in diving.
Along with wanting to provide the highest quality products, Ocean Conservation sits at the heart of the Fourth Element business, initially raising money through their sales for ocean conservations charities, in 2014 Fourth Element released their Ocean Positive range.
Recycled ghost fishing nets they had helped to remove from the ocean were made into ECONYL® yarn which Fourth Element began to use to manufacture swimwear and rashguards. Over the years this range has continued to develop and now many of Fourth Element’s products are part of their Ocean Positive range and this only continues to grow.
Fourth Element is the driving force behind Mission 2020, an initiative to encourage the dive industry and community to pledge sustainable business practices.
Fourth Element continues to make huge strides in conservation, using only compostable or recyclable packaging, recycled nylon and polyester used in many products, natural rubbers, water based glues, used coffee grounds and organic cotton grown without pesticides all help them to define new standards for the dive industry.
As well as conservation, Fourth Element are known for groundbreaking developments and incredibly innovative ideas, their thermal protection range consists of drysuits, wetsuits and undergarments to suit every divers need with attention to detail and products of an exceptionally high quality.
