Bare was brought to life in a small shop in British Colombia in 1972 by two divers determined to create a drysuit that could withstand the harsh waters of the Canadian Pacific Ocean. Jim Cartwright and Jeremy Fitzgibbon manufactured their first custom made drysuit with an ergonomic fit. With innovation and determination, the mission has always been to create equipment that functioned better, fit better and lasts longer.
Originally under the trading name of Fitzwright, the name of Bare as we know it came about in 1979, with the launch of a range of high density Ultraflex neoprene wetsuits.
Best known for comfortable, warm and stylish wetsuits, Bare are stronger than ever 50 years on from this and continue to push boundaries. Their patented No Stitch Technology (NST) has been copied but its results never matched. Seams are glued and doubled stitched to reduce water ingress and retain warmth without losing flexibility. Combined with their Ultrawarmth Technology Bare continue to make improvements meaning they stay at the top of the league when it comes to wetsuits and drysuits.
The dedication and passion within the Bare team took the small company in British Colombia to one of the best known and regarded wetsuit manufacturers globally.
Such confidence in their products, In 2007 Bare introduced the first and only industry wide lifetime guarantee for their drysuits.
In 2010 Bare received many industry awards and accolades with the creation of its Stretch Breathable (SB) Drysuit System, and in 2014 its HDC Drysuit, their most durable which was then improved even further in 2016.
